Hafiz (of ook wel Hafez genoemd) was een Perzische soefidichter en -mysticus. Hafiz leefde ongeveer van 1320 tot 1390.
Hafiz is ook de benaming voor iemand die de Koran uit zijn hoofd kent.
Het verhaal gaat dat Hafiz al op zeer jonge leeftijd de Koran uit zijn hoofd kende, evenals gedichten van Rumi en andere soefidichters.
Er is niet veel bekend over zijn leven en een deel wordt ook gezien als speculatie of legendes.
Hoewel Hafiz soms erg met zichzelf ingenomen lijkt, is zijn werk het waard te benoemen.
